The 2025 Toyota GR Supra invites us to "drive into the adrenaline-fueled world of GR Supra, where raw power, razor-sharp handling and a race-ready design are geared to subvert your every expectation." Though ours will be the other type of supra (a traditional Georgian feast, hosted at a long table, ripe with flavors and full of song and abundant wine), I think the description still works. Come prepared to subvert your every expectation....
In Georgian, supra translates to tablecloth. The intention is always to cover the table, edge to edge, with food and wine. A supra is led by a tamada, or toastmaster. They are tasked with proposing toasts, and invite others to elaborate on the theme they've introduced. A toast can be proposed only by a tamada. This role exists to "help bridge the gap between past, present and future, toasting ancestors and descendants as well as the other guests at the table." Traditionally, a successful tamada must be able to consume copious amounts of alcohol without showing signs of drunkenness, and with an ability to still lead ritual. Songs are woven throughout, as well as time for eating, chatting and, as the night progresses, most likely dancing.
Don't worry, we'll lead you! Those of us hosting have a history of learning and singing Georgian music and/or traveling there. We'll be providing the meal, but ask each guest to bring wine (there are so many delicious Georgian wines, but any wine will do!) or an N/A alternative. Please RSVP to our OneTable (linked above). This helps us offset the cost of food.
As the Georgians say, gaumarjos !
